A quiet, accessible site for a local musician, including a “listen to this page” audio feature and skip-link accessibility.

Allen Gillon’s home page: his name in a script typeface beside a photo of him playing a red electric guitar, with a Listen to this page button.

Allen had a clear picture of how the site should look and feel, so it went through many rounds of fine-tuning to get it exactly right, while keeping a high level of design and meeting the accessibility needs he chose, so older visitors can easily read and listen to the site.

Design

  • An artistic design built around his music, with hand-drawn instruments, like a guitar head and a record, worked into the layout.

Accessibility

  • A “listen to this page” audio feature, so visitors can hear the page read aloud.
  • A skip link, so keyboard and screen reader users can go straight to the content.
Bookings and Albums sections with hand-drawn guitar and record icons, and a list of venues he plays.
